Instead of listing a bunch of WordPress services and plugins that we recommend, here is a list of services and plugins we use to run this site.
(Note: some of these are affiliate links)
What Keeps It Fast, Secure and Here For You
We use Liquid Web for both of our sites. And since these two sites are the way we make a living, it’s important to make sure they are speedy and secure. If you are looking for solid WordPress managed hosting, you can get 33% off your first six months of any of their hosting plans. Just use code: Bob-WP.
You can read our full review of Liquid Web Managed Hosting here.
In addition, we keep on top of all updates using iThemes Sync Pro.
Streaming in Our Podcast
As you may know, it’s never recommended to use your own server and your media library to store your podcast audio files. That is why we use Castos Podcast Hosting. Not only are they 100% reliable, but their Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin gives you a slick player, and all you need to set up your own podcast on your WordPress site.
You can see our post here and learn more about it.
Keeping Track of Our Analytics
We live and die by the analytics on both of our sites. I believe that everyone should pay attention to their site analytics. If you are using Google Analytics, make your life easier and use Analytify to breakdown the stats down into an easy-to-understand format right in your dashboard.
You can read our post on BobWP about this plugin.
Subscribing to Our Podcast
I looked high and low to find some nice-looking subscribe buttons for our podcasts. Sure, there are plenty of social share button plugins out there, but none that had podcast options. I discovered the Social Subscribe and Follow Icons plugin. It’s pretty slick, especially if you have a podcast. Of course, it works for your social icons as well.
Why Our Sites Look So Professional
We have used child themes for Genesis on our sites for several years. During that time we probably have used 9-10 different themes. The reason being is that we know they are solidly built and some of the best in the WordPress space. Currently, we run the child theme Daily Dish Pro for all three of our sites.
For those design tweaks we want to change on this theme without any diving into the murky depths of code, we rely on Genesis Design Palette Pro.
You can also check out all the StudioPress themes here.
Making It Easy for You to Share Our Content
The Social Warfare plugin has been part of are site arsenal for some time. It gives you real control over how your content is shared by others. It also have some pretty slick tools to help you go beyond how your share buttons look.
We talk more about Social Warfare on this post.
Giving You the Chance to Opt in
Although we don’t send out newsletter or product updates, we still want to make sure you can sign up to keep updated on our content here. OptinMonster has been a source for us for some time. It’s reliable and makes it easy to add nice looking opt-ins on all our sites.
Staying in Contact
I cannot tell you now long we have used Gravity Forms. Since then, a lot of form plugins have joined the market and do a great job. But heck, why fix something that isn’t broken? Here is why we have used it for so long.
Herding the Affiliate Links
As noted, this site does have affiliate links. In fact, it’s how we are able to offer sites like this one and our others. If you use them yourselves, and have a larger number to manage, you know that you need control of these links. We have used Thirsty Affiliates for years. It’s the best way to manage and easily update your links. We tell you more about it here.
Making Sure Google Knows About Us
I cannot remember a time any of our sites have not used Yoast SEO premium. It’s a given with for us and it gives us the tools to help us boost the content we continue to create. The redirection features that come with premium are worth the price alone.
Getting the Word Out
We all know how important it is to share our content on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, depending on needs and audience. Managing and scheduling social shares is perfect if done right. Social Web Suite has all the tools to help you manage, customize and organize your shares. We wouldn’t use anything else.
Keeping the Odds and Ends Covered
Since Jetpack came out, we have used it on our sites. There has always been a need for a few of the modules and it has served us well over the years. In the last couple of years we have turned to the premium versions for even for specific functionality. One example of that is VaultPress, which has been a priceless, additional backup system for our sites.
The flexibility that Jetpack brings to WordPress sites makes it easy to turn the features you need off and on, as needed.
